Wide Field of Comet Hale-Bopp

April 5, 1997 at 1:11 UT

This is Comet Hale-Bopp as it appeared after stacking seven 20 second exposure images starting at 8:11pm localtime on April 4th. The image was taken with a Meade Pictor 416 attached to a 28mm F/3.5 lens stopped to F/5.6. The image was corrected with a dark frame and logarithmically stretched. To the left and up from the comet is the open cluster M34.
